SHOW term definitions

GIMMICK: Any humane training device will be accepted under the judge’s discretion. Examples: Two hands, noseband, martingales, etc. 

AMATEUR: As defined by ESEF and/or AQHA rules, but not for age. 

FUTURITY CLASS: Open to horses four (4) years of age and under, never shown in a bit. To be shown in a mouth snaffle or hackamore and ridden with two (2) hands. Proof of age required.

FIRST YEAR GREEN:  As defined by USA Equestrian rules. 

SECOND YEAR GREEN: Pleasure and Trail horses in their second year of showing in that event 

WALK/JOG: Applies to the 11 & Under classes. Classes shall walk and job/trot both directions of the arena. Horse must be shown in appropriate equipment. Exhibitor may not cross enter into leadline classes/division at any show even if the age limit allows for participation. 

JUNIOR/AMATEUR (JR/AM): Open to Juniors and Amateurs in accordance with the USEF rules. In the event of an age split at a given show, the horse is to be shown in only one age group for points. 

RESTRICTED: As applies to the Restricted Walk/Jog Junior/Amateur Division; riders who have not placed first in year end competition , not including Walk/Jog 11 & Under and Leadline 6 & Under , at Nor-Cal, PCHA, USEF, PCQHA, AQHA, CAQHEA, etc. Riders may cross enter into lope/caner classes 

HUNTER UNDER SADDLE: Classes will work both directions of the ring at Walk, Trot and Canter. Horses need not be braided. Riders will wear suitable attire including protective helmet. 

Running and Standing martingales are permitted in over fences classes except where rail work is included.

JUNIOR/AMATEUR DIVISION:  Open to all Junior/Amateur in accordance with the USEF Inc, rules.  A junior rider is 17 & under and an Amateur rider is 18 & over.  These classes are designated as trophy and ribbon classes only – NO MONEY – to be awarded.  No additional fee may be added to exhibitor’s basic entry fee for these classes.

In the event of an age split at a given show, the horse is to be shown in only one age group for points. All junior riders, 18 & Under riding in Hunter, Jumper and Hunt Seat Equitation classes must wear properly fitted protective headgear while riding in the designated schooling and exercise areas, the show ring and while jumping anywhere on the competition grounds.  Harness must be secured and properly fitted.  Any rider violating this rule at anytime must immediately be prohibited from further riding until such headgear is properly in place.

GREEN RIDER REINING:  Green Rider Reining is open to a rider who has never earned any breed association’s points in reining, has never received any money awards in reining, and has never been placed first in reining in any organization’s year end award program.

Rider may use two hands.  Sliding stop not required.  Rider may slow to trot before stopping.  Patterns the same as NRHA except for spins.  Green Rider Reining does only 2 or 2 ¼ spins, according to pattern.  Basically walk-in patterns;  no lead changes to a run down.  Rider may break down to do a lead change (simple change).

BUCKLE CLASSES:   Never too have won a buckle in that event, including end of the year for that division, a playday or  schooling show.   You must enter one (1) other class in that division to be eligible for the buckle class.
